Ilupeju Secondary School Alumni

Welcome to Ilusec Alumni Official Website

History

Before 2015, different graduating sets from Ilupeju Secondary school (Ilusec) engaged in friendly associations as old students of Ilusec via interaction with their village sets or in combination with other sets. Several attempts were made at uniting all these groups for over 15 years to no avail. On the 19th of February 2016, Engineer Idowu Adegboyega Oyebanjo (1992 village set) made a passionate call for all the coordinators (and key active members) of those who have been holding meetings in one form or the other as “old students’ association” of Ilupeju Secondary School to come together.

Also, within the next 9 days, the group was already in contact with the members of the pioneer set that finished from Ilusec – 1984 Village set. For five weeks thereafter, the group of 36 members, representing the coordinators of all sets from 1984 – 2002 (apart from 1990 which does not exist historically) discussed on various issues around the establishment of the National body to represent the alumni for our great School. His past relationship with the Students who finished in the 1990s meant that within the first 3 days, he got the coordinators for all sets from 1991 – 2002 together on a single social media platform.

Finally, I want to thank the members of the BoT for their painstaking efforts to keep the alumni together in the face of daunting challenges.

Vision:

To make Ilusec Alumni the alumni to reckon with worldwide.

The first thing to do for the alumni is to create an atmosphere of love, unity, and peace. I have had preliminary meetings with my amiable VP 3, responsible for the affairs of all village sets to focus primarily on the three ‘Rs’ – Reconciliation, Reorientation and Reorganization. In parallel, I have spoken with key leaders in the three generation of the alumni to prepare for the task as no meaningful achievement can be attained without a peaceful alumni.

More importantly, the AGM has instructed us as exco to reconstitute the Board of Trustees for the alumni to include all the generations of the alumni. I have made it a priority to ensure that the majority of the BoT will be from among our qualified elders with character and strength to move the alumni forward. I have already commenced consultations in this regard. My expectation is that with the BoT, the highest organ of the alumni, being led by our dear elders, and the exco dominantly looking after the day-to-day activities of the alumni, we will be able to achieve the original vision I had, when I first called two illustrious members of the Frontiers, Ladi Depiver of the 1995 Set, Gbenga Odesanya of the 1995 Set and my amiable General Secretary, Yewande Onabolu Jimoh of the 1993 Set of this great alumni. I explained the vision to the trio and they keyed into it strongly. I am proud to say that, till date, they have never failed to continue to do so.

As the President of the caretaker committee that worked assiduously to birth the alumni, we were able to establish all the village sets of the alumni and welcome every outgoing class to join the alumni.

VP 2, my able vice president in charge of the members of the alumni in the diaspora and I have discussed how to leverage on the goodwill, knowledge, exposure and financial strength of members in the diaspora to launch laudable projects in the alumni every 6 months. This requires significant planning and coordination and we agree that the coordinators of every set will be very helpful in our realising this noble objective.

We will strengthen the already established diaspora groups in North America, UK, continental Europe, and Asia to harness the resources of members in the diaspora to develop Ilusec in a manner that has never been seen before now.

On the home front, we already have a group created for high net worth members of the alumni and they, I believe, will also want to match the performance of diaspora members to deliver projects that are outstandingly unique and we will leverage on this too to give a face lift to Ilusec , our Alma mater.

Of course, all village sets are welcome to conceive and deliver projects in the School in coordination with the Lagos State Government established Schools Based Management Committee (SBMC) in Ilusec.
